CENSUS QUESTION 9
Stand up and be counted Caribbean!
Why it matters? Elected officials refer to census data in understanding the
demographics of their constituents, when making political, economic, and social decisions
Just as the Black voice or the female voice represent unique needs, so does the Caribbean
voice, and we need to ensure that the strength of each of our voices is understood.
How can we be counted Caribbean? If we are black and if we are white? If we are
bi-racial and if we are tri-racial? If we are Chinese and if we are Indian. If we are out of
many one, and if for so many of us being Caribbean is what most clearly defines who are?
